  Jurijs Kondratenko has more than 20 years experience in urban planning and more than 10 years experience with planning, outline design and policy planning for stormwater nature-based solutions. Jurijs is also a first year PhD student with Riga Technical University, Water Research and Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory. Jurijs' research and professional interest is creating 'a perfect sponge', nature based solutions that would be effective both for managing extreme rainfall as well as for water retention and evapotranspiration to contribute to urban heat island effect mitigation.

  I research and teach in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury. I currently research in runoff quality characterisation, pollutant load modelling, development of new treatment technologies and assessment of socio-cultural benefits of Nature-based Solutions to inform design. Very interested in water sensitive urban design, ecological solutions for treatment, creating ecological resilience in engineered systems and adaptive engineering for a changing climate.

  Anna Hastings leads the East Sussex County Council £4.5 million Blue Heart project under DEFRA’s £150m Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme. The project is seeking to demonstrate how practical innovative actions can work to improve resilience to flooding and coastal erosion. Part of this includes seeking new innovative methods of engagement and testing them for the communities of Eastbourne and southern Wealden, UK.

  I have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and an MSc in water resources. My professional experience includes 2 years of sewer system design experience and 6 years as a professor in Colombia, where I taught various hydraulics disciplines.
